Excellent conversation, insights.

Would like to know more about Haslam's negative comments on Putin. Putin seems to have done the impossible in restoring Russia as an independent state, against seemingly impossible odds stacked up against Russia by the west to dismember it and turn it into another US controlled "banana republic". How he, and his team, have done this makes him one of the most credible leaders of our century.

Why does Haslam indicate he, Putin's team, has failed?

It is very hard to listen to any "brit" when it comes to Russia. You can hear the animosity and the "better than" attitude. Imagine a brit saying they understand Russians, everything he says about American Hubris is doubled by British Elites. Listen to this clown talk about Putin establishing a dictatorship and that he failed?? What the hell is talking about. Come on Glenn you need to push back on the dictatorship nonsense

The first battle of Kursk should've taught Ruskies where the sun will never shine from and that for some any mean is justified to achieve the goal. Nothing changed since then.

For decades, the murderous, lying, corrupt leadership of the U.S. has had and continues to have far more serious issues than hubris.

Professor Haslam's analysis of Vladimir Putin's perception of Russia's relationship with Ukraine, response to the EU's interest in Ukraine, and position regarding NATO expansion into Ukraine leaves much to be desired. A better source for authoritative answers to these questions is Mr. Putin's long July 12, 2021 essay, "On the Historical Unity of Russians and Ukrainians," easily accessible via the Kremlin website.

Many scholars read this essay partway through and leave it with their preconceptions intact. The few who read it to the end leave it with a far more nuanced understanding in direct opposition to that promoted by most U.S, academics.

Here is my analysis of this essay and its misreading by U.S. academics:

Whom the f… care what Russia thinks. They don’t decide over Europe or any other independent country. If the Russians have acted as good neighbours there would be no wars.

Oh yes, it is. There is plenty of evidence of U.S. hubris. It thinks it can control the world. It is about to find out that it can't.
