Professor Jonathan Haslam from Princeton University and Cambridge University is the author of “Hubris: The American Origins of Russia's War against Ukraine”. Professor Haslam outlines how the incredible hubris that emerged after the Cold War contributed to excluding Russia from the European security architecture and dismissing legitimate Russian security concerns. Both advocates and opponents of NATO expansionism recognised it would predictably result in conflict with Russia. Yet the prevailing sentiment within the Clinton administration was that it did not matter what Russia thought. After hubris comes nemesis.

Excellent conversation, insights.
Would like to know more about Haslam's negative comments on Putin. Putin seems to have done the impossible in restoring Russia as an independent state, against seemingly impossible odds stacked up against Russia by the west to dismember it and turn it into another US controlled "banana republic". How he, and his team, have done this makes him one of the most credible leaders of our century.
Why does Haslam indicate he, Putin's team, has failed?
It is very hard to listen to any "brit" when it comes to Russia. You can hear the animosity and the "better than" attitude. Imagine a brit saying they understand Russians, everything he says about American Hubris is doubled by British Elites. Listen to this clown talk about Putin establishing a dictatorship and that he failed?? What the hell is talking about. Come on Glenn you need to push back on the dictatorship nonsense
