“...In connection with the Jewish question I have this to say: it is a shameful spectacle to see how the whole democratic world is oozing sympathy for the poor tormented Jewish people, but remains hard-hearted and obdurate when it comes to helping them which is surely, in view of its attitude, an obvious duty. The arguments that are brought up as an excuse for not helping them actually speak for us Germans and Italians.”. Adolf Hitler, Jan 30 1939
If I were a Palestinian living in Gaza, and through some miracle I along with my family had managed to survive the past couple of years of Israeli bombing…..and I was offered the chance to relocate to somewhere safe, with a newly built apartment, a school for my children, health care and a job, and maybe a few thousand dollars to sweeten the deal…..I would almost certainly say yes, thanks very much, and how soon can I leave.
That presupposes that either Palestinians feel no real, significant connection to the Land of Palestine or even if they do it can effectively be bombed out of them.
It's legally defined as ethnic cleansing for a reason and there's a reason why no reasonable, decent human being should ever consider acceptable.
I don’t myself know any Palestinians, so I have no idea what they all think about President Trump’s proposal that they be relocated out of Gaza.
I’m merely suggesting that before non-Palestinians around the world reject the idea on their behalf, perhaps, as a courtesy, those Palestinians presently resident in Gaza might be consulted as to their individual preferences in the matter.
Perhaps some might choose to leave, and others might choose to remain; that would be unsurprising.
You are surely not suggesting that any Palestinian family that elected to leave Gaza and built themselves a new and better life somewhere else are, merely by virtue of making that free choice not “reasonable, decent human beings”.
Highly dubious assertion you make in your conclusion there.
How on earth might I be suggesting that?
Surely it's glaringly obvious these people wouldn't be making such a decision based on their own free will but because events and circumstances past, present and future might force them too.
It would be, very simply and like I said, ethnic cleansing.
Nevermind that it would, again very obviously, serve to weaken the hands of those who wish to remain.
Well ‘events and circumstances, past, present and future’, fortunate or otherwise, are what drive everyone’s decision making, and shape the course and direction of our lives as well as those of the unfortunate Palestinian people.
So yes, obviously any choice as to whether to stay or leave would be circumscribed and perhaps largely determined by the realities of the present desperate situation, but it would be no less legitimate for that, and either choice should be respected.
It seems very patronising to suggest, as I think you’re suggesting, that Palestinians shouldn’t be asked whether or not they wished to continue living in Gaza, because some, or perhaps many, of them might wish to leave, and this would ‘weaken the hands of those who wish to remain’, and perhaps offend the sensibilities of non-Palestinians who have their own preferences in the matter.
So, basically, bombing the cr@p out of somewhere razing it to the ground and intentionally making it largely uninhabitable should be seen as an entirely legitimate tactic to remove people from their homelands and negate any future claims they might have on them?
My guess is any generations of the people have lived on that land or being indigionous. I see native Americans, Canadian Inuit and Australian Aboriginals the same.
Then a politician will stand on a platform, saying "Our country is a mess, so we must send the Palestinian immigrants back to their own country".....and the cycle repeats.
In all sincerity, I warn against cuddling unspeakable anathema. Donald Operation Warp Speed Trump stands as the millennium's supreme Pan-democidal monster. Please give this a litle consideration. I simply resent and will have no part of frivolous discussion around this order of person, because here's what you get...
A ceaseless play-by-play geopolo sports commentariat. How to describe the maturing condition of these increasingly apparent faux westerner counter-propagandist rings, the lot of you fed by USAID diddle. How you worship celebrity and cuddle anathema. Look at you ridiculously pushed since Ukraine to never stop licking the evilest of assholes by your handlers. Tell us your vax stats, lads. That's the real news innit

Thanks for your reply.

Straw man - not worth refuting.

What kind of significant connection to their land does an open borders policy imply?
Inquiring minds want to know ...

Well that's mighty white of you.

GREAT discussion!
