What your discussion points to is that by virtue of the fact that we in the United States enlisted the services of complete fools to run the show during the unipolar moment we completely blew a golden opportunity to follow the wise advice of people like my parents, George Kennan and John Mearsheimer (and everyone on his side of the fence) in leading by example and largely minding our own business.
In my opinion the most valuable thing about NATO was not so much that it was a counterbalance to The Soviet Union, and then later Russia, but that it was an alliance which helped to keep the peace amongst countries in Europe itself.
Now, unfortunately after having blown this golden opportunity, we find ourselves in a multipolar world.
In my opinion this means that it will be more difficult to manage the international system going forward because countries like China will be more likely to become regional hegemons on their hemispheres they might decide to start to roam around in the western hemisphere (in the US’s back yard). This will cause increased tensions and could result in heated conflicts and war.
This is where my “course” comes in. Among other things my course is a way in which to try to avoid the tragedy of great power politics and move toward a way in which to try to tackle the worldwide problems we all face as a species.
Since by definition my course has to include a relatively wide range of concepts I’m going to try to have a movie producer help me put it in the form of a documentary film.
If anyone is interested in helping get this accomplished - please let me know.
Thanks for your great work Glenn!

The trend maybe there, but it will take some time to substantiate. There is still a chance for Europe to turn around.
Great discussion. Thank you, Glenn.
