Chas Freeman argues that the US tells itself lies about China, which results in self-harm as opportunities for cooperation are wasted and conflicts are unnecessarily pursued. Ambassador Freeman was Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs from 1993-94, earning the highest public service awards of the Department of Defense for his roles in designing a NATO-centered post-Cold War European security system and in reestablishing defense and military relations with China. He served as U. S. Ambassador to Saudi Arabia (during operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm).

Ambassador Freeman’s paraphrasing of Larry Summers’s hearing from an African interlocutor: “When the Chinese come, they offer roads, dams, and electrification; when you come, you insist that we conform to your political steps and you offer us nothing.”
More accurately, the Chinese offer to build infrastructure for economic development that dovetails with their own growth plans, while the US and other Western capitalists offer nothing but debt bondage and forced forfeiture of their resources and common wealth potential. Like what was perpetrated on Russia during the 1990's. And we know which ethnic strain of people has created and taken over this system which is now “cannibalizing” the US and Europe as well.
That contrast is what motivates the ROW to join BRICS and as soon as possible to shun the West’s vultures that have refined all sorts of ways to deprive people of their wealth and well-being, now that they have a viable and honest geoeconomic alternative that also includes some protection from the aggressive and destructive militarism of the US.
Thanks for your great work Glenn!
