Very sensible and convincing assessment of the conflict. The chief risk—and this really can’t be overstated—is accidental nuclear war as escalation ensues.

Thanks Glen and Ray you’re simply the best of the west. Putin is the last to put his fingers on the nuclear code, but Europe loves the bomb they’re begging please let the black rain fall on our heads.

Sociopaths including sexual predators, school shooters & ICE depend on people seeing wrongs & doing or saying nothing excusing that as the duty of authorities. But we live in an anonymous , “ see no evil, hear no evil” society though there are always people…waiters, taxi drivers, homeless people.. who see wrongs & could warn or get help sooner than authorities. There is no better defense than a nosey neighbor. We need to be our brother's keeper.

Grasshopper Kaplan's avatar

Waiters. Taxi drivers, homeless people....this is redundant, we are all the same, except when you a homeless tqxiccab driver both your words and those you didn't say will be used against you

James Joyce Award?

"Former CIA analyst Ray McGovern has not received a James Joyce Award. The program titled "McGovern's Choice" features renowned Irish actor Barry McGovern performing selections of James Joyce’s works at the James Joyce Centre in Dublin, rather than the political activist Ray McGovern."

Huh. Thanks for that.

Who is this delirious old man? Does he work for Marco Rubio and Trump...??

Hi Glenn, after listening to your discussion with Ray I looked up the power the atomic bombs used on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Hiroshima bomb was 16 Kt. and Nagasaki 21 Kt. The 16 Kt. caused more devastation because Hiroshima is on flat land. I live in Vancouveru BC which is 540 Km. from Mt. St. Helen. When the volcano exploded I was sitting with my wife in a restaurant and the ceiling of the restaurant trembled like in a earthquake. The power of the explosion was estimated at 25 Mt. Berlin is sitting on flat land. If the Russians would drop 25 Mt. bomb on Berlin huge part of Europe and Britain would perish.

I was sad to read that Ray write will soon be entering semi-retirement.

I am sure he would have been gratified to have Prof. Diesen be one of the first public intellectuals to congratulate him on his receipt of the James Joyce award. One senses a passing of the chalice. As Ray observed, it is perhaps but the two of them who could both name each of the islands in the disputed chain between Russia and Japan.

It was a pleasure to hear McGovern and Diesen discuss, in sober terms, the challenges the world faces as power shifts to Asia.

The biggest winner of Trump's naval blockade in the Persian Gulf isn't Washington or Tehran. It’s Xi Jinping.

While legitimate global commerce is paralyzed and American sailors face severe readiness crises on hyper-extended deployments, Beijing is buying discounted Iranian crude, filling the world’s largest oil stockpile, and watching the U.S. abandon the Indo-Pacific.

The "wall of steel" isn't locking Iran in—it's locking the United States out of the theater that actually matters.

Watch Secretary Hegseth brag about the "powerful red, white, and blue dome" the U.S. has placed over the Strait of Hormuz. This is the exact political theater I tear apart in my latest dispatch for The Trigg Ledger.

While the administration parades these press conferences and fires Hellfire missiles at 30-year-old container ships to look tough for the cameras, they are letting the actual prize slip right through their fingers. Heavy-tonnage VLCCs are actively loading at Kharg Island, killing their transponders, and hauling millions of barrels of Iranian crude straight to China.

The "wall of steel" isn't a blockade—it's a selective friction filter that is paralyzing Western supply chains and breaking U.S. Navy readiness, all while Beijing quietly secures its energy pipeline.

Stop buying the Washington narrative and look at the actual shipping logs. Read the full maritime intelligence breakdown here:

It's only three months or so since Japan started buying Russian oil again, from the far eastern Russian facility. Now they're doing sanctions again? Shooting Themselves in the foot.

ray mcgovern is a fruitcake and you are a russian asset and propagandist. when the missiles fly, you better get a flight to Argentina. the Norweigens would be wise to detain you.

Argentina is part of Greater Israel now, and Norway jails have free food and utilities and arts and crafts classes, soo.

At least it would silence the murderous Putin international fan club coming out of Norway.

The Strauss–Howe generational theory divides history into repeating 80-to-90-year cycles called saecula, each made up of four distinct 20-year generational phases or "turnings".The Four Turnings are, The High, a post-crisis era of strong institutions and community agreement, The Awakening, a time of cultural rebellion and spiritual focus, The Unraveling, a period of growing individualism and declining trust in leadership, The Crisis, Fourth Turning, a high-stress era marked by an urgent threat, institutional collapse, and major war that resets the social order.

It seems like our time has come. Fools!

No doubt LaVern. Good post!

My post was not intended as a confirmation of your comment.

I'm afraid you will consider me one of those in the 'murderous Putin international fan club' as I see him, and Xi, as one of the few rational people in the world. with access to real power. if Russia were acting like the US typically does, Ukraine would have been levelled in 2022 and there would be not only a couple of million Ukrainian military KIA, but millions of civilian casualties. The Ukraine war started in 2014 and the preparation for it started in 1946, and Russia is doing almost exactly the same as what the US did during the 1963 Cuban Missile Crisis, defending their borders from an aggressive opposing entity, in this case, the US/NATO, the US would not accept a militarized Russian proxy on their border, why would any rational person expect Russia to accept a militarized US/NATO proxy on their border. I think you really need to learn a bit of history or at a minimum, understand that you've accepted US/Western propaganda without a critical thinking filter.

The propaganda loop has been created by the trump era GOP and the love of so called traditionalists. Russia had the opportunity to become part of family of nations, but rejected this as soon as they were free of the Soviets. Read your history of the early nineties and the end of the cold war. Kosovo and the Pristina airport was the 1st confrontation with Wesley Clark ordering the British commander to fire on the Russians as they rushed to take control of the airport. The expansion of NATO was due to the Eastern Europeans begging to join as they were brutally dominated by a group of stupid commisars who ruined their economies and cultures. Opponents of the Russian dictatorship were murdered on European soil Chechnya was brutalized by both Yeltsin and Putin, the 1st carpet bombing of civilians since WWII. Nobody told Putin to destroy the budding democracy and divide up the economy to the ruling class leaving the rest of the country in poverty except in the cities without any real economy except oil, domination of the Syrian regime with a threatening base to the whole middle east, the brutal exploitation of Africa by mercenaries taking resources and formenting civil wars, forcing themselves on the Ukraine who even Yanucovich rejected the Russian advances but was forced to backtrack and the YOUTH of Ukraine said hell no rather than be redominated and ruined, constant threats to Moldova, the Baltics, who were attacked by major cyber disruptions since their freedom, Yeltsin never agreed to not reinvade Ukraine after they gave up their nukes and never agreed to leave the Baltics alone. This Putin apologist movement has beed made popular by weak Vance like traditionalists who praise and agree with likes of the insane Dugin and pre-nazi writers such as Evola, Schmitt and Garin in the 1930's precursors to Nazi thought and Black Shirts in Italy. The West invited the Russians in and Putin being a small jealous man rejected this, as it was more profitable to exploit the divide to keep control of his illegal destruction of the Russian economy. Glenn Deisen is comical and the anti western washed up pundits he has on claiming Russia is winning. They are not. Read and study your history.

Carmen Renaldy's avatar

Oh and lets not forget the little green men who showed up in the illegal take over of Crimea.

LaVerne Karras's avatar

That is exactly what I pointed out, you've accepted the propaganda, read Scott Horton's book, 'Provoked', it's ~640 pages of the history of the conflict.

As for the propaganda about the 'little green men', they were the ethnic Russians from the Donbass and Crimea that tore off their Ukrainian military patches as they no longer supported the Nazi led Yanokovich government. How hard is that to understand? I think you need to understand your history as well and remember my suggestion about critical thinking and propaganda.

You are obviously very informed, so I guess we will have to agree to disagree. Thank you for the civil conversation and many blessings to you and your family.
