John Mearsheimer & Sergey Karaganov discuss why Russia is under mounting pressure to restore its deterrence, which will likely escalate quickly to a nuclear strike on Europe.
Thank you, Glenn, for the work you do in bringing us to an appreciation of your perspectives, and to those of invitees on your broadcasts. I have been interacting with the works of Professor John Mearsheimer since the late 1980s and more recently with those of Professor Sergey Karaganov. The interaction between the three of you is a vitally important and timely contribution of elucidation for elites globally, and most notably for those gathered in the European members of Nato.
I’ll do what I can in bringing attention to your Substack, and to your post of June 13, 2026, to other thinkers and to a general public which is fed a stream of propaganda by military-industrial-financial-media-politics complexes.
An important and timely discussion based on history looking towards the future. Constructive exchanges between Karaganov and Mearsheimer were really eye opening emphasizing the extreme gravity of this moment. Thank you Glenn!
Karaganow gets something wrong: in 1914, Austria declared war on Serbia. And it had many good reasons for doing so. It would have been one of many wars on the Balkan. It was Russia, which started the escalation by declaring war on Austria. Thereby triggering a cascade of declarations of war. In fulfillment of the military alliance, Germany then declared war on Russia, France mobilized against Germany etc.
Now: this cascade was not accidental. The Austrian Generals (especially this idiot Conrad von Hötzendorf, who considered himself a military genius) knew very well, that a war against Serbia could lead to a war against Russia, but due to the alliance with Germany, he expected the Russians to restrain. Same with the Russians, they knew, that Germany might help the Austrians, but relied on France and GB. All in all it was a series of colossal miscalculations. Karaganow should study history, before he develops risky strategies.
Very important discussion--it's really useful to hear two overlapping but quite distinct views being expressed. My views are closer to Karaganov's. There's no denying that Europe--and its offspring in the US, Israel and elsewhere--has been the source of the vast majority of evil in the last 500 years. Japan is a distant second. And Europe and its offspring continue to be the source of the most evil to the present day. Look at the number of people the US has killed just since 9-11: far more than a holocaust's-worth! So I can see why Russia wants nothing to do with the Western, white (supremacist) world, wants to finally make it harmless and irrelevant. It would no doubt want to do the same to the US if it could.

What exactly is a "limited" nuclear weapon?
