Excellent guest! IIrc it was then Fed Head Janet Yellen who said some years ago, that it may be the way of the US to make some economic steps backward in it struggle to maintain global supremacy. We will see, how this works out. The major point speaking for the US is, that as China as such does not (yet?) offer "security partnerships", most countries are subject to US coercion. After provoking something with Taiwan the US may attempt to block major Chinese trade routes. War for the pretend nuclear bomb threat reason against Iran might also help US interests. After a oil supply disruption in the Middle East and cutting off Russia, the US might be the last man standing economically on this planet.
In about 100 years time, a highland tribe from New Guinea might come to the conclusion, that this is a monopolar world and that they are the sole superpower. This probably sounds funnier than it is meant to be.
This is like the death of a venomous scorpion that in its death throes, lashes around trying to sting everything in sight, in the hopes it that it can extend its life by doing so. Sure it WILL die: that is nature's course. But it sure can kill a lot others on the way there.
