Britain Will Slowly Adjust to the US Position on Ukraine to Remain Relevant
Ian Proud with Glenn Diesen
I had a conversation with Ian Proud, a member of His Majesty's Diplomatic Service from 1999 to 2023. Ian was a senior officer at the British Embassy in Moscow from July 2014 to February 2019, at a time when UK-Russia relations were particularly tense. He performed a number of roles in Moscow, including as Head of Chancery, Economic Counsellor - in charge of advising UK Ministers on economic sanctions - Chair of the Crisis Committee, Director of the Diplomatic Academy for Eastern Europe and Central Asia and Vice Chair of the Board at the Anglo-American School.
Britain was at the forefront of the proxy war against Russia, led by the Biden administration. Trapped by its own narratives, the British government undermined its strategic relationship with the US by continuing its aggressive posture in Ukraine. However, Ian Proud argues the government is slowly pivoting to the US position and will accept that the proxy war has been lost.
I agree - GB govt will not be able to spew lies & propaganda about a war - after it is lost & Ukraine falls - however will they bankrupt our country first by continuing financial support for a lost cause and by refusing the cheap energy available to us long term ? And do the public actually realise how much this blind “support “ is really costing US the people ? Most of our politicians don’t have to worry about the cost of heating their homes or buying their groceries - as usual we suffer for their blatantly ignorant & stupid decisions
To your question, it all depends on who is leading the UK. I wonder if enough citizens there can get past the predictable pro Zelensky anti-Putin propaganda.
